Position Summary
Salary: $64,300 - $78,600 annually, depending on experience. MSU Benefits - Free Comprehensive health care for you and your family as well as a 10% contribution toward your retirement; Generous sick, vacation, personal, and holiday time. This position is eligible for remote work upon completion of a successful probationary period, or at supervisor's discretion. Regular attendance is required to meet business and customer needs.
Hidden Lake Gardens “HLG” is a 755-acre botanical garden and arboretum located in Tipton, MI. As a Michigan State University facility, HLG offers a year-round public conservatory, plant collections, gardens, hiking trails, meadows, and woodlands. HLG strives to connect, engage, and inspire people by the beauty of plants and the natural world. The Education Program Coordinator II will create and facilitate a comprehensive set of public programs through classes, workshops, lectures, demonstrations, field trips, guided tours, and miscellaneous events. The successful candidate would serve as an engaging and accessible ambassador of Hidden Lake Gardens and Michigan State University.
The breakdown of job duties are as follows:
25% - Coordinate and evaluate all aspects of educational programs including classes, lectures, workshops, demonstrations, and community events. Schedule speakers, presenters, and volunteers for events.
25% - Plan, develop, organize, evaluate community outreach such as field trips, summer camps, or other programs for students, community groups, families, tours, and individual people.
20% - Create, deliver, and refine new educational programs and offerings with the help of staff and Hidden Lake Gardens constituents. Order, track, and maintain program supplies on a regular basis. Create budget plans, track spending, and reconcile budgets for supported programs and events.
20% - Schedule, develop, and organize festivals and special events for Hidden Lake Gardens. Collaborate with the operations team to schedule special events with volunteers and team members. Facilitate and collaborate with operations staff for set-up, and tear-down of special events. Develop and collaborate with others to implement new special events and improve upon existing events.
10% - Work with marketing staff to publicize, promote, and advertise programs and events. Use website, print, broadcast, and social media applications to publicize programs and events. Encourages growing constituent base and engaging existing constituents.
Regular attendance is required to meet business and customer needs. This position will require a valid vehicle operator's license. Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Educational Theory and Methodology and/or a specialization in the designated area of Horticulture, Biological, Agricultural, Sustainability, or Environmental Sciences; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in planning and overseeing seminars and conferences including public relations, organizing and disseminating training materials and information both written and web- based; budget and records maintenance and computer support; experience in database, spreadsheet, word processing, desktop publishing, knowledge of HTML programming and web site development and management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A valid vehicle operator's license is required to fulfill the duties of this position.
Desired Qualifications
A successful candidate would have excellent communication skills – verbal, written, and technical. An effective teacher and public presenter with a high comfort level teaching wide ranges of audiences. Experience in utilizing technology in communication and teaching is desired. Proficiency with the Microsoft Suite is preferred.
The ability to work simultaneously on a wide range of projects. The ability to work well with time constraints, schedules, and competing priorities in a multi-tasking environment. Experience working in a non-profit or university environment with the goal of supporting community and education. Experience working with volunteers, service groups, and interns to achieve unit goals. The ability to collaborate with others on the Hidden Lake Gardens team to reach the unit's desired goals.
