Position Summary

MSU Health Care is a multidisciplinary academic health center located on the historic campus of Michigan State University. MSU Health Care is committed to being a national leader in innovation, education, and the delivery of safe, quality health care for our community and beyond. With nearly 400,000 inpatient and outpatient visits annually, MSU Health Care provides a comprehensive suite of services for people of all ages. In collaboration with faculty from the Colleges of Human Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, and Nursing, MSU Health Care contributes to the University’s academic and research initiative by participating in the education of future health care providers. One of the key opportunities of this CMO position will be collaborating with peers from Henry Ford Health and the Henry Ford Medical Group to further develop the relationship between MSU Health Care and Henry Ford Medical Group.

Henry Ford Health and MSU formally announced a 30-year partnership in 2021 creating Henry Ford Health + Michigan State University Health Sciences. HFH+MSUHS focused on setting a new standard for delivering excellent health care to people in Michigan and across the nation. To date we have established a joint research enterprise, broken ground on a joint research center and strengthened medical and health education. To unlock the full potential of the partnership, we are also integrating our clinical operations. The MSU Health Care CMO will play a pivotal role in advancing clinical integration.

Dual reporting to the Henry Ford Medical Group CMO and MSU Health Care CAO, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is the physician executive who expertly guides and proactively engages departmental leadership and providers to promote and effectuate the operational goals of MSU Health Care. The CMO provides senior-level leadership to quality, risk management, safety, and medical staff credentialing functions, ensures the collaboration and coordination of all stakeholders in these processes, facilitates the analysis of quality performance and prioritization of improvement opportunities, and consults on an array of issues involving providers. This leader also contributes to overall enterprise strategy and service line development to ensure quality management including the HFH Clinically Integrated Network (CIN) and promote optimum patient experience.
