Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.
Unit Position Summary
The Applied Behavioral Ecology Lab of the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University seeks part-time (10-20 h per week) temporary research technicians to assist with a systematic review of the movement strategies and tactics used by migrating sea lampreys and the approaches used by fishers to capture migrants. We aim to develop new means of controlling the invasive sea lamprey by integrating scientific research and traditional sources of knowledge. The research technician will conduct a thorough literature search of relevant research articles and grey literature and develop a database and annotated bibliography.
By the end of the appointment, the research technician will have strengthened their skills in locating, evaluating, and synthesizing both scientific and traditional ecological knowledge. This experience will be especially valuable for those interested in interdisciplinary approaches to invasive species management, fisheries ecology, or knowledge co-production.
Desired Qualifications
Completion of two or more years of college-level coursework in fisheries, ecology, biology, or a related discipline. Applicants should exhibit a strong work ethic, be self-motivated, conscientious, enthusiastic, and capable of working in a team. Strong computer skills and knowledge of Excel, Zotero, Covidence, etc. are assets.
