Position Summary
The Department of Family Medicine seeks an independent and well-organized Research Coordinator to work with Dr. Nadia Abuelezam. This individual will be involved in two center grants focused on community-centered health equity research. Both grants supporting this role are funded through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. This position is currently funded at 80% with the goal of securing additional funding to move to full-time.
The Research Coordinator will be an instrumental member of two multidisciplinary teams and will be responsible for planning, coordinating, executing and developing products for the Center's activities. The Research Coordinator will assist in the creation of standard operating procedures, manage grant budgets, keep team members on task, keep meeting minutes and follow-up on action items, organize national convenings, produce grant outputs, and help in reporting back to RWJF.
The ideal candidate will have a strong motivation and commitment to a career in public health and health equity, strong project management skills with prior experience organizing large multidisciplinary groups, excellent communication skills, and an ability to conduct work in a self-directed and collaborative manner.
Dr. Nadia Abuelezam is an epidemiologist with a strong publication record in health inequities and community-engaged research. She is committed to training the next generation of public health leaders and scholars in community-engaged research practices. This opportunity is well suited for individuals interested in pursuing future careers and/or degrees in public health with a focus on marginalized communities (especially MENA communities in the United States).
The College of Human Medicine at MSU is a community-based medical school, offering opportunities to collaborate with faculty focused on bench science, clinical practice, and population health throughout the state. The Department of Family Medicine works closely with community partners, including healthcare systems and community-focused organizations, to further its research and education missions.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through completion of one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master's in Public Health; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research methodologies, writing reports, supervision, software, data interpretation and handling in area related to research being performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
It is expected that an individual in this position will have excellent communication, writing and presentation skills in English; prior experience in project management and managing large groups; an ability to work in a collaborative environment and receive/incorporate feedback; a strong motivation for independent learning; and a commitment to health equity.
Desired qualifications include fluency in Arabic (written and oral) and prior experience with civic organizing or other organizing activities.
