Radiology Veterinary Technician

Position Summary

This position focuses on sedation, monitoring, and imaging of both small and large animal patients undergoing various diagnostic procedures, including radiography, ultrasound, CT, bone scan, and fluoroscopy.

The successful candidate will work efficiently and collaboratively with radiographers and fellow LVTs to facilitate imaging exams. Responsibilities include drawing up and administering veterinarian-prescribed medications, patient monitoring during imaging, performing imaging procedures, assisting with proper patient positioning (often alongside veterinary students), and managing recovery and reversal. There will be ongoing opportunities for training in and exposure to advanced imaging modalities such as CT, bone scan, and fluoroscopy.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school in Veterinary Technology; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in extensive patient care, surgery, anesthesia, drug-dosing, and sterilization; experience in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attainment of such certification within one year from date of employment.

Summary of Physical Demands

Will be required to lift medical equipment and animals into cages; carry animals between cages and exam tables/gurneys; push carts containing animals and equipment to other areas of the hospital; climb stairs carrying lab samples; restrain animals. Lifting of up to 50lbs individually or 150lbs as a team.

Summary of Health Risks

Working with animals or unfixed tissue.

May wear respirator.

Possible exposure to zoonotic diseases.
