Postdoctoral Scholar-Fixed Term

Position Summary

The primary goal of this position is to investigate and characterize the molecular events that regulate calcium-induced, reactive oxygen species-sensitized, mitochondrial dysfunction that occurs during ischemia/reperfusion injury model and chronic disease. The selected candidate will use a computational approach to integrate experimental data into a quantitative framework and aid in interpreting the bioenergetic and physiological changes associated with mitochondrial dysfunction in cardiac myocytes. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

• Conducting independent and collaborative research projects
• Training and supervising graduate/undergraduate students in their research
• Contributing to publications, scientific presentations and grant proposals

The selected candidate will have extensive opportunities to publish, and access to exceptional resources to facilitate their independent research.

This is an off-date position funded for one year from date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal and satisfactory performance. The duties to be performed by this position require in-person presence in East Lansing, MI, and they are not compatible with remote work.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Mathematics, physics, bioinformatics, computational modeling, physiology, enzyme kinetics, biochemistry

Minimum Requirements

• Ph.D. in physics, physiology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, or a related biomedical field, completed prior to the first day of employment.
• Evidence of productive scientific scholarship demonstrated through publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Demonstrated research expertise in physiology, cell biology, and/or biochemistry, with knowledge of computational physiology, dynamical systems modeling, and enzyme kinetics.
• Proven ability to conduct independent research while contributing effectively within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
• Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a high level of motivation and commitment to scholarly research.

Desired Qualifications

• Knowledge of mitochondrial physiology.
• Experience working in a research laboratory environment.
• Experience developing, implementing, and analyzing computational models of biological processes.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate scientific concepts effectively to diverse audiences.
