Ast/Asc Professor - Fixed term

Position Summary

This is a University faculty position with academic rank (Ast/Asc Prof) based upon the appointee’s academic and experiential qualifications. As part of the faculty team, this individual is also involved in program activities, generating, and delivering classroom lectures and clinical skills instruction within the basic medical and clinical science topics for which he/she is qualified.

Responsibilities/Duties: 

  • Participate in the development, review, and revisions of: program mission, vision, goals, competencies, meetings, and ongoing program self-assessment / program evaluation activities.
  • Generate and deliver classroom lectures and clinical skills instruction within the basic medical and clinical science topics for which assigned.
  • Participate in curriculum development, curriculum coordination, curriculum implementation, curriculum evaluation, remedial instruction, and student performance evaluation.
  • Teaching and Instruction as Instructor of Record for assigned courses within the PA Medicine Curriculum.
  • Participate in admissions processes by scoring applications, interviewing candidates, student recruitment and rendering applicant selection decisions.
  • Assist in the ongoing sustainability and development of the interprofessional educational experiences of the PA Medicine program.
  • Participate in accreditation activities to assist in maintaining compliance with ARC-PA requirements.
  • Perform academic counseling, mentoring, instruct, and evaluate students within areas of expertise as assigned.
  • Participate in activities of state, regional, and national organizations to promote a positive image of the PA concept within academic, lay, and professional communities.
  • Participate as a member of program-level committees.
  • Represent the Physician Assistant Program through service on college or university-level committees when needed.
  • Pursue professional development activities such as clinical practice, scholarly activities, or an advanced degree.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Required Degree

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree in physician assistant studies from an accredited program
  • Current NCCPA Certification
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant clinical experience with at least 2 years precepting/instructing PAs, PA students or medical students
  • A valid physician assistant license for the State of Michigan or eligibility to obtain such licensure.

OR

  • Doctoral degree, DO or MD with active Board certification and state licensure in Michigan or eligibility to obtain such licensure.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant clinical experience with at least 2 years precepting/instructing PAs, PA students or medical students 

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated abilities in teaching and curriculum development.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and the public.
  • Familiarity with the use of computers for organization, word processing, and communication.
  • Enthusiastic about working in a collaborative environment.
  • Self-motivated with refined organizational skills.
