Position Summary

The successful candidate will manage accounting and operational activities, supervise staff and prepare financial statements and reports for the Organizational Units in University Health and Wellbeing. The position reports to the Director of Operations. 

Characteristic Duties Include:
Researches, prepares and verifies the accuracy of financial statements and reports in order to provide information for Departmental Unit personnel and University departments. Develops, implements and oversees accounting controls for the Department. Prepares and reviews general journal accounting entries and reconciles Departmental records to University account ledgers. Assists in developing Departmental financial policies and procedures. Follows up on delinquent accounts in order to achieve higher collection rates. Success in this position will be demonstrated by the ability to work independently, at a high level of responsibility in a busy and deadline driven work environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness. This position maintains contemporary knowledge of ethics laws, standards, legislation, and emerging trends that may affect financial organizational behaviors and practice. Maintains advanced knowledge in the use of data, statistics, evidence-based research, benchmarks, HR and business metrics to make critical financial decisions. Fosters a culture of inclusiveness within the organization. Act as a resource for UHW personnel across all levels of the Organization on processes, procedures, and financial related issues.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervision, accounting procedures and developing accounting controls, policies and procedures; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts and practices and ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations. Five to eight years of experience in expansive financial action supervision and management. experience assisting in developing policies and procedures surrounding finance and related business functions; experience in a Higher Education environment; knowledge of University policies and procedures, especially in the field of budget and finance; experience in a service based work environment; demonstrates a work orientation that includes problem solving, taking initiative, working as a part of a team, and learning for continuous self-improvement. Experience with Microsoft Office including 365, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook; experience with University systems including SAP, Kuali Financial System, and Business Intelligence. Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
