In alignment with the mission, programs and initiatives of MSU Extension, delivers research-based information to program participants through various methods and/or provides support and coordination of MSU Extension programs.

Position Summary:

· Schedules staff with their input.
· Plans the detailed daily schedule of activities, using the framework provided. Many 4-H resource materials are available. The Director may also search or bring his/her own ideas.
· Communicates with guest speakers to agree on a suitable time for their presentations.
· Writes a parent newsletter each week to inform parents of recent events and upcoming activities. The newsletter is distributed on Thursday each week.
· Maintains attendance records.
· Oversees all activities during the program. Oversees discipline. Delegates tasks to staff as appropriate. Remains on site during program hours of operation.
· Clearly communicates all plans to the youth instructors so that the program can run smoothly if the Director must handle a situation. Plans for weekly field trips. Arranges for transportation by bus with Rogers City Schools, if necessary. Informs 4-H Program Coordinator so insurance can be arranged, if necessary.
· Manages the budget as established by the 4-H Program Coordinator.
· Maintains an inventory of supplies, reports damaged or expended items.

Work should be completed at the MSU Extension office Monday - Friday unless approved by the 4-H Program Coordinator to work at another location or another time. If work is completed on the Director's personal computer, all files must be transferred to the 4-H Coordinator.

Desired Qualifications

  • Proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members across race, gender, socioeconomic class, disabilities, and other differences to assist with program development and outreach.
  • Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.
  • Combination of education and specific, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and use of appropriate approaches, skills and techniques, which reflect an understanding and awareness of social, cultural and economic diversity of the target population served.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., web research, Zoom, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, etc.).
  • Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
