Position Summary:
The position of 4-H Youth Development Program Assistant is a temporary position starting in October and not currently end dated. This position is designed to provide assistance to the Kalkaska County 4-H Program. 20 hours per week will be worked. The work schedule is flexible based upon daily program needs and includes some mandatory night and weekend activities. Position reports to the District 3 4-H Supervising and Staff Development Educator. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
-Working with the Kalkaska County 4-H Leader's Association in planning, leading, and carrying out activities.
-Management of the 4-H program including the 4-H Online enrollment database, club paperwork, and other administrative tasks.
-Assisting volunteers and support staff in management of volunteer-led programs including Archery and Soccer.
-Working directly with volunteers and support staff on fair-related activities, planning and events associated with Kalkaska County 4-H classes and shows, including but not limited to: organizing pre-fair information, project registration, communication with volunteers and families, managing the Fair Entry database system, managing the 4-H livestock auction.
-Performing other duties as assigned.
Applicants must be available and willing to work flexible hours during the Kalkaska County Fair. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and e-mail systems needed. Must have the ability to work with people, be a team player, and a willingness to learn new tasks.
Regular office hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., although some night, weekend hours are required.
Desired Qualifications
- The successful applicant will be an individual who is flexible, independent, and a self-starter who handles pressure well.
- Basic knowledge of 4-H Youth Development programs.
- Proven ability in establishing and working with a network of constituents and community members across race, gender, national origin, gender identity, religion, age, height, weight, political beliefs, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, veteran status, socioeconomic class, disabilities, and other differences.
- Demonstrated success in program development and delivery to audiences/communities representative of the communities we serve, and proven ability in establishing and working with a network of constituents and community members across race, color, gender, national origin, gender identity, religion, age, height, weight, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, veteran status, socioeconomic class, and other differences.
- Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.
- Combination of education and specific, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and use of appropriate approaches, skills and techniques, which reflect an understanding and awareness of social, cultural and economic diversity of the target population served.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Travel in local and surrounding communities and occasional long-distance travel are required as a regular part of this position.
- Transportation is the responsibility of the employee.
- Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., web research, Zoom, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, etc.).
- Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
