Position Summary

Salary: low $63,779.92, average $68,992.33, and high $75,377.74 - annually depending on experience. MSU benefits include free comprehensive health care for you and your family as well as a 10% contribution toward your retirement; generous sick, vacation, personal and holiday time; eligible to work a partial/hybrid remote schedule. Regular attendance is required to meet business and customer needs.

This position will collaborate with team members to plan internal and external strategic communication strategies and tactics related to key initiatives and priorities. The position will be responsible to design, create, edit, and adapt content; coordinate multimedia components for integrated communication efforts, which could include photography, videography, graphic design, and script writing; engage in strategic storytelling through feature writing and article development; manage social media content and calendar; revise external website and internal SharePoint site content; and identify communication needs and publicity opportunities. 

This is a pool posting for two positions.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Journalism, Communications, or Public Relations; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public and media relations, composing, editing and publication production, news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or computer programming/technology; experience managing content for social media channels; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premier); experience with website content management system and SharePoint; experience managing social media sites and content; ability to work as an effective member of a team or independently; ability to adjust content for the target audience; ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks; self-starter who possesses good problem-solving and decision-making skills; notices details in editing process; knowledge of digital accessibility; awareness of diversity, equity and inclusion values. Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions and re-prioritize work when needed.

A creative and innovative lifelong learner with the ability to communicate (verbal and written) with a diverse population; able to problem solve within a collaborative team environment; ability to understand different perspectives while utilizing expert knowledge of the technical operations of the job.
