Position Summary

The Kellogg Biological Station (KBS) is seeking a Unit Human Resources Coordinator to join the KBS Administrative Team, be a key contributor in a dynamic office environment, and provide human resources support to faculty, labs, and units. KBS is a mid-size department, with 17 faculty members and approximately 100-125 employees.  Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Submit job postings, oversee interview processes, and complete hiring forms for all new hires at Kellogg Biological Station, including student, temporary/on-call, support staff, academic staff, and faculty positions
  • Oversee new employee onboarding processes and assist in creating a welcoming environment for new employees
  • Prepare and reconcile departmental files and timesheets in SAP
  • Assist in identifying and implementing departmental training and employee development activities
  • Maintain and recommend updates to departmental job descriptions and related task information
  • Assist supervisory personnel in developing and maintaining performance management information
  • Stay current on MSU Human Resources policy and help disseminate information to department employees.
  • Serve as a liaison between departmental personnel and administrative head or unit human resources lead on human resources matters
  • Maintain or increase human resources knowledge through coursework, attendance at workshops and seminars, or outside reading
  • Participate in special projects and committees
  • Perform and assist in performing general administrative activities as assigned

This position is located at W.K. Kellogg Biological Station in Hickory Corners, MI; approximately 60 miles southwest of East Lansing.  This position will be for one-year initially with the expectation for renewal based on performance and funding availability. The option for a hybrid work schedule is available.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in human resources, a related social science field, or a field related to the operations of the department; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a human resources function or an area related to departmental operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have previous human resource experience, comfort with technology inclusive of software applications and Microsoft 365. Most importantly, applicants will have a positive attitude and a desire to contribute to a collaborative and flexible team. Ideal applicants will be self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
