Position Summary

Job description

The Program Director effectively and efficiently operates MSU’s High School Equivalency Program (HEP) and its services to MSU HEP students, both the synchronous online and hybrid residential options. They coordinate, implement, oversee, and develop MSU HEP and supervise other full-time and part-time staff. It is a full-time position and standard 8-hour workdays with probable evening and weekend hours as necessary; reporting to the MSU HEP Director (Director of MSU Migrant Student Services). A salaried, off-date position funded through 06/30/2026 with the possibility to be renewed annually through 06/30/2029.

Duties and responsibilities

Ensures all aspects of HEP operations function to meet specific objectives relative to the number of participants served and the number of those earning their High School Equivalency diploma through the General Educational Development (GED) tests. Additionally, coordinates and oversees career advising and placement of students upon exiting.

  • Hires, supervises, and trains instructors, recruitment coordinators, and a variety of support staff
  • Ensures quality student records regarding eligibility, admittance, academic performance, and career placement.
  • Arranges and assures effective instruction, i.e., personnel, space, technology, and other tools for GED subject areas (Reasoning through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Social Studies, and Science) in Spanish and English.
  • Directs Lead Instructor in developing GED subject’s curricula and supervising other instructional staff.
  • Directs Recruitment/Outreach Coordinator on best practices in identifying, assessing and admitting students.
  • Coordinates and ensures cultural and academic enrichment activities are taking place.
  • Conducts regular HEP faculty and staff meetings to ensure all parts of the program are in alignment with established curriculum.
  • Ensures that program goals and objectives are being met and federal reporting requirements are met.
  • Promotes strategic communication processes and building relations with organizations serving MSFW and the community at large.
  • Performs any other miscellaneous duties necessary for the success of the program.

Required Degree

Masters -Social science, education, business or related field

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social science, education, business, or a related field.
  • More than one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in staff management.
  • Budget oversight and management of federally funded programs, including operating GED or high school completion programs.
  • Experience working with migrant populations.
  • Experience using various online platforms for teaching, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, calendaring, and web page software.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Desired Qualifications

  • Written and verbal fluency in English and Spanish
