      Position Summary

      The Michigan State University College of Nursing Academic Advisor will assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of initiatives that advance the College of Nursing’s mission, vision, and strategic goals related to advancing excellence in undergraduate recruitment, admissions, enrollment, and academic advising. This position will be responsible for supporting or co-leading processes that enhance student success and contribute to the College’s strategic objectives through effective academic advising, program coordination, assessment, and data-informed decision-making. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong record of working in an academic environment and a commitment to access, opportunity, and excellence. Experience in academic advising, student recruitment, program or project management, and administrative operations is essential.

      Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

      • Provide proactive, student-centered academic advising to prospective and current undergraduate students regarding university, college, and program requirements.
      • Monitor and track students’ academic progress toward degree completion, identifying and addressing opportunity barriers to success.
      • Conduct graduation checks to ensure timely progress and degree certification.
      • Teach at least one section annually of the UGS 110 seminar for Pre-nursing students.
      • Plan, organize, and coordinate the strategic assessment of undergraduate-level initiatives, advising programs, and student engagement events.
      • Coordinate, plan, and participate in events hosted by the College of Nursing’s Office of Student Affairs, including but not limited to New Student Orientation (NSO), MSU Admitted Student Day, College Program Orientations, Colloquium, Nursing Career Fairs, Senior Off-Boarding Day, Pinning Ceremonies, Graduation Brunches/Luncheons, and recruitment events.
      • Process and manage course overrides, substitutions, and related registration requests.
      • Contribute to the design and implementation of academic success and retention initiatives.
      • Advise students on available university and community resources to support academic, personal, and professional success

      Required Degree

      Masters -Student Affairs, Higher Education or related field

      Minimum Requirements

      • Minimum of one year of experience in academic advising and/or student recruitment within a higher education setting.
      • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including experience in public speaking.
      • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
      • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality customer service and exercise sound judgment with minimal supervision.
      • Proven ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to support student success and inform advising practices.
      • Demonstrated innovative problem-solving skills and the ability to implement creative, practical solutions to complex challenges.
      • Evidence of the ability to work collaboratively and constructively across multiple levels of a complex organization, building consensus and fostering positive working relationships with diverse populations.
      • Ability to lift to 30 pounds.
      • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

      Desired Qualifications

      • Evidence of ongoing commitment to professional development in higher education, advising, or student success.
      • Teaching and/or presentation experience with college students.
      • Experience using complex student information systems and databases.
      • Familiarity with the specific academic requirements and curricular structure of Nursing or Health Professions programs.
