Position Summary

This position assists with the research needs in the Costa laboratory studying molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration and carrying out drug and target discovery for neurodegenerative diseases. Duties include performing experimental assays in human stem cells and their derivatives; mouse genotyping and behavior testing; pathological analysis of human and mouse cells/tissues; entering, compiling and analyzing data; assisting with lab orders & lab organization/equipment maintenance. This position is for 1 year from the start date with possible extension based on funding availability.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge normally acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Neuroscience or other related field; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience performing basic research techniques Neuroscience or in similar areas such as: Tissue Culture, Analytical Research, Molecular Biology, Agriculture, Social Science, Physiology, Medical Research, etc., including the use and calibration of related equipment; word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Experience working with potentially dangerous research animals specific to Neuroscience.

Desired Qualifications

The qualified applicant should have experience with:

  • human stem cell cultures and organoid cultures
  • coding - basic level
  • rodents (preferably mice)
  • data analysis (Excel, PRISM, ImageJ)
  • large-data analysis (e.g. RNAseq)
  • cellular and molecular biology and biochemistry techniques (extraction of proteins, DNA and RNA from human and/or mouse cells/tissues, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, PCR, quantitative PCR)
  • confocal microscopy
  • office 365 apps
