Position Summary

The Castillo-Ruiz lab is seeking a full-time Research Technologist II to conduct experiments related to the effects of the microbiota and birth mode on brain development using mice as experimental subjects. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1) maintaining inventory and ordering laboratory supplies, as well as addressing laboratory compliance related issues, 2) maintenance and supervision of mouse colony, 3) conducting research experiments under the direction of Dr. Castillo-Ruiz which will include behavioral procedures as well as histological and molecular biology procedures and data analysis, 4) training of undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory procedures, and 5) participating actively in lab meetings.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge normally acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in neuroscience or related field; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience performing basic research techniques specific to the area of research employment such as: Tissue Culture, Analytical Research, Molecular Biology, Agriculture, Social Science, Physiology, Medical Research, etc., including the use and calibration of related equipment; word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The job requires experience working with potentially dangerous research animals specific to the area of research employment.

-Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

-Strong verbal communication skills.

-Ability to work in a team as well as independently.

-Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, GraphPad, and PowerPoint.

-Experience with mouse colony husbandry.

-Experience training students.
