Position Summary

The lab of Chris Kozakiewicz is looking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join us at Michigan State University’s Kellogg Biological Station (KBS). The Kozakiewicz lab uses genomic approaches to elucidate how interactions among wildlife and their environments shape the emergence and spread of infectious diseases. Our lab is a supportive and inclusive environment that welcomes all individuals regardless of their background or identity.

The central focus of this position will be to develop projects aimed at understanding how connectivity among wild birds drives infectious disease dynamics across environmental gradients. However, there will be opportunities to work across different projects in a variety of systems, integrating field, lab, and computational approaches. We are particularly seeking applicants that have backgrounds in avian ecology, disease ecology, microbiology, and/or genetics. The successful applicant will have strong written and oral communication skills, and they will be expected to generate publications and presentations based on the findings of their work.

Start date and salary: The appointment is for one year, subject to extension contingent on performance. The preferred start date is September 1, 2025. The position includes competitive salary and benefits.

Postdoctoral development: KBS has a vibrant postdoctoral community and is committed to postdoctoral career development and success. The successful applicant will have diverse professional development opportunities, including independent project development, grant writing, student mentoring, communication with public and scientific audiences, teaching opportunities, and participation in workshops and seminars. The successful applicant will be based at KBS, which hosts a vibrant and diverse group of resident faculty, post-docs, and graduate students, along with various facilities including the Molecular Ecology and Genomics Lab, Pond Lab, and Bird Sanctuary.
