Position Summary

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral (research associate) positions in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Michigan State University under the supervision of Prof. Chong-Yu Ruan. The appointment is for up to two years, with the potential for renewal based on the availability of new funding. The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled.

The successful candidate will work with MSU’s ultrafast science research team to relocate the existing high-brightness femtosecond electron microscope system to a newly renovated facility. This effort will involve implementing precision controls aimed at achieving multimodal imaging at sub-50 femtosecond resolution, building on recent benchmark studies. The candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to execute the relocation plan within the first year and subsequently manage further benchmark studies and applications.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with ultrafast laser systems, multimodal electron microscopy, and/or radio-frequency (RF) accelerators is highly desirable.
