Support Staff
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
The position of Recruiter within the MSU Identification and Recruitment Center has the purpose of accurately identifying and recruiting all eligible migrant youth between the ages of 0-21 who are not already enrolled in the Migrant Education Program; updating records of students already in the system; developing and maintaining partnerships with community agencies, crew leaders, farmers, growers, and to be an available advocate for migrant families.
The recruiter will hold the responsibility of visiting and connecting with businesses such as greenhouses, dairy farms, fruit, and vegetable growers as well as visiting homes and camps of agricultural workers. This requires an open and flexible work schedule that often includes hours in the evenings and whole weekends. The recruiter will also work to build community relationships, building a network of community resources to connect families to. This position also requires distribution and familiarization of ESL and life skills materials to qualifying youth.

The selected candidate will work remotely with available office space on MSU’s main campus. The recruiter will work primarily evenings and weekends visiting or calling potential migratory families, support agencies, and agricultural employers. The employee will use a personal vehicle for in-state travel and be compensated the government rate for mileage. The recruiter will be provided with a laptop, hotspot, other equipment, and supplies. Hours will range from 15 hours per week in the off-season to 40 hours per week during the main growing season. Some overnight trips or out-of-state travel may be necessary on a limited basis. The employee will collaborate with other Migrant Student Services programs and staff, as well as other Migrant Education Programs in Michigan and across the nation.
