Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

The Michigan State University and Hurley Children’s Hospital Pediatric Public Health Initiative (https://msuhurleypphi.org/), under the direction of Dr. Mona Hanna, seeks to fill a temporary position to provide information and connect individuals to resources and services. The overall mission of the Pediatric Public Health Initiative (PPHI) is to improve the outcomes of Flint children. Through clinical and community programs, partnerships, advocacy, training, and evaluation, the Pediatric Public Health Initiative strives for health equity and serves as a national resource for best practices. PPHI is driven by five work teams: Child and Health Development, Nutrition, Exposure Assessment, Health Informatics, and Child Health Policy and Advocacy. These teams work closely with the PPHI Parent Partner Group and the PPHI Flint Youth Justice League.

 

This position will:

  • Share and provide information on available resources, programs, and opportunities with community members through one-on-one meetings, group meetings, and tabling outreach events
  • Connect to or help enroll families in programs, services, and studies such as Rx Kids, Flint Registry, Double Up Food Bucks, nutrition prescriptions, Flint Kids Cook, Imagination Library, Video Interaction Project, Early On, and Early Education
  • Provide reminder phone calls and follow-up communication to individuals enrolled in any of the PPHI programs
  • Respond to questions or concerns (in-person or via phone) from parents or community members regarding resources, appointments, procedures, or follow-up
  • Track outreach metrics
  • Assist with coordination of the Flint Youth Justice League (PPHI youth partners), Parent Partner, and Rx Kids Mom meetings and activities

 

This position works under the PPHI Director of Community-based Implementation and Engagement. Candidates must have the availability to work in-person in Flint, MI.

 

This is a temporary full-time position funded through September 30, 2025.

  • Provide own transportation to community locations in Flint

  • Ability to maintain written and electronic records accurately

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with children preferred, but not required
  • Basic knowledge of web-based communication, competent keyboarding, high level of comfort with development of documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, including basic proficiency in the following software: Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Office Excel, Microsoft Office Outlook, Microsoft Office PowerPoint
  •  Able to work independently in an organized and efficient manner
  • Excellent oral and written skills with the ability to write and conduct daily communications
  • Understanding the history, systemic inequities, and experiences related to the Flint
