Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
Unit Position Summary
Working title: Geospatial AI Developer and MRV Assistant
Provides Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI) technical and analytical support to remote sensing image analysis in a research environment focused on digital mapping tree-based systems; deploys AI Generative, Deep Learning and other analytics models using remote sensing data.
Duties:
30%: Geo AI and remote sensing analysis:
- professional and technical duties within defined parameters involving analysis, development, preparation, implementation and maintenance of advanced specialized AI geospatial models, dataset and computer programs.
- coordination and performing research and geospatial analytical models and analysis.
- support the development of machine learning models that use various deep machine learning and transformer code and models to analyze images for trees as objects, as well as generative AI models from the field of computer vision for image segmentation and ERSGANS algorithms.
30%: Measurement, Reporting and Verification Tools Development
- integration of geoAI supporting systems, such as databases, GIS, and satellite imagery with online information systems in a Web browser
- supports back- and front-end development of cloud-based AI applications in support of an international research project on climate change and forests; and will support developing AI models to analyze satellite imagery
40%: Software Tool Development
- independently design and implementation computer software models, data handling systems, and AI tools development using applicable computer programming languages, scripts and IDEs
- Build large scale database applications as well as AI; demonstrable proficiency working with Transformer, UNet Convolutional Neural Networks, Generative AI, Image Segmentation, and associated frameworks with Jupyter Notebooks, R, Python, Django, Windows Web-server environments, and relational databases
Desired Qualifications
This job requires: knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a PhD college degree in the specific field of AI or other related Data Science fields; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience performing specialized and difficult analytical and research techniques and designing analytical or computer vision software code in new AI frameworks for large scale datasets; requires knowledge of software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position may require special certification in the field related to the area of employment.
Additional desired qualifications include expansive work experience in technical system analysis, with qualifications that includes knowledge of computer science, engineering, data science, geospatial information systems, or data science and analytics and creating Web-based mapping programs and spatial models independently; experience with machine learning models; knowledge of applicable computer programming languages, scripts and IDEs; experience building database backed web applications as well as machine learning tools; demonstrable proficiency working with AI, Geo AI, UNet Convolutional Neural Networks, Transformers, Segmentation and Object analysis using Jupyter Notebooks, R, Python, and associated frameworks with Windows Web-server environments, and relational databases; ability to perform technical system analysis and to write and maintain effective Web-based mapping programs and spatial models in an independent, entrepreneurial, focused, self-driven manner; experience with machine learning models; knowledge of applicable computer programming languages, scripts. The candidate would be expected to write well, have good presentation and communication skills and work well in an extensive globally distributed team representing diverse cross-cultural backgrounds. Technical abilities in remote sensing, GIS, field measurements of tree and forest carbon, MRV systems, and machine learning are desired.
