Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
Unit Position Summary
The Potato Outreach Program is seeking a full time temporary (90 day) research aide beginning spring 2021. The applicant will prepare potatoes for planting, including cutting, treating, and organizing potato seed. Day to day duties include travel to field sites around Michigan, planting research trials, data collection, and data entry. This position is based at the MSU Agronomy farm with frequent travel to research plots. This position provides an opportunity for the research aide to learn about commercial potato production and on-farm research in Michigan.
Desired Qualifications
Required qualifications: - Drivers license - Ability to follow protocols with attention to detail - Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel - Ability to repeatedly lift at least 60 lbs comfortably - Ability to work outdoors in adverse conditions for long periods of time - Punctuality and willingness to work long hours if needed (some weeks will be 40+ hours with overtime pay) Desired qualifications: - Familiarity with agricultural research - Ability to operate a forklift - Able to drive truck and trailer - Previous work experience in an agricultural environment
