Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

Position Overview

The Office for Civil Rights and Title IX Education and Compliance at Michigan State University is seeking a detail-oriented and creative Temporary Web Specialist for a summer appointment. This individual will lead efforts to clean, update, and enhance the office’s web presence to ensure content accuracy, legal compliance, and user-friendliness.

Working collaboratively with internal teams and subject matter experts, the Web Specialist will help modernize web pages, improve site navigation, and develop new content to support our educational, compliance, and outreach goals.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a thorough audit of existing website content to identify outdated, inaccurate, or redundant information.
  • Revise and remove content as needed in coordination with content owners.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather up-to-date information and ensure clarity and consistency across pages.
  • Develop and publish new web pages to support departmental initiatives and improve public-facing resources.
  • Improve the user experience by streamlining navigation, enhancing accessibility, and applying best practices in content layout and design.
  • Document updates and create a reference guide for future website maintenance.
  • Work closely with the department’s communications and compliance teams to ensure tone, accuracy, and accessibility.
  • Ensure content meets university brand standards and legal compliance requirements (e.g., ADA, Title IX, Title VI, etc.).

Desired Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with content management systems (e.g., Sitecore, WordPress, Drupal, Cascade).
  • Basic knowledge of web design principles and user experience best practices.
  • Strong writing, proofreading, and content organization skills.
  • Comfort working independently and collaboratively with staff at all levels.
  • Awareness of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) and an interest in equity-centered digital communication.
  • Familiarity with higher education or public sector websites is a plus
