Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

   Support in the execution of grant activities related to growing fonio, a small-seeded grain, as a cover crop, forage, and grain. The technical aide will liasion with fonio growers in Michigan, North Dakota, Illinois to coordinate seed procurement, planting times, and harvesting. Additional responsibilities include organizing a grower field day, compiling and synthesizing data, contributing to publications, and providing advise to new growers of fonio.

Desired Qualifications

   Previous experience growing fonio (Digitaria exilis); experience growing crops with knowledge about vegetable and commodity crop production; experience designing field trials and collecting data; curiosity and good communication skills.;

Summary of Physical Demands

   Weeding, collecting soil samples, collecting biomass samples, working in the field, lifting seed (all under 50lbs)
