Working/Functional Title
Primary Care Supervisor
Position Summary
Oversees and contributes (expected approximately 75% time) to the daily care of animal patients within the Veterinary Medical Center in order to facilitate the service, teaching and research activities of the small animal clinic of the VMC. Supervise, hire and oversee training of technical staff; ensure that staffing levels are appropriate; manages communication regarding client care; performs duties normally associated with veterinary nurse I and II in order to complete necessary work; continues to provide technician support to current service in VMC. Work schedule is Monday through Friday first shift, with occasional night and weekend hours. This is a full-time position.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school with coursework in Veterinary Technology; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in patient care, surgery, drug dosing and sterilization, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan, or attainment of such certification within one year of date of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Three to five years as a Licensed Veterinary Technician, preferably within a hospital teaching setting
Demonstrated level of emotional intelligence in a high stress work environment
Prior supervision preferred

Summary of Physical Demands
Lifting and carrying animals or equipment up to 50lbs individually or 150lbs as a team
Summary of Health Risks
TB risk or have potential exposure to animal or specimens with Mycobacterium bovis.
Work with animals or unfixed animal tissue.
Wear a respirator (does not include paper dust mask worn for comfort)
