Position Summary

The Lowry Lab at Michigan State University is searching for a postdoctoral research associate to conduct field and laboratory experiments to understand the causes of genetic variation in cold acclimation and freezing tolerance in the bioenergy crop switchgrass. This work builds on prior research by our group, which found that locally adapted switchgrass induces cold acclimation at higher temperatures and gains much greater freezing tolerance as a result of acclimation. The successful candidate will coordinate and oversee experiments in the field, laboratory, and plant growth facilities. It will be important that the successful candidate coordinate and/or integrate their efforts with our ongoing switchgrass genomic, breeding, and functional genetic research programs. A valid U.S. driver’s license and willingness to drive a mid-sized university-owned truck at least twice a month (~150 miles per day) is a requirement at the time at which this position begins.
