Position Summary

Michigan State University's Institutional Research team is a strategic partner across campus, offering analytical expertise to inform planning, policy, and practice. As a unit committed to equity and inclusion, we welcome applicants who bring diverse perspectives and are passionate about fostering a culture of belonging within the Spartan community.
In this role, the Health and Wellbeing Data Analyst will collaborate with university health and wellbeing leadership—to identify trends, answer key institutional questions related to health and wellbeing, and drive data-informed decisions. The analyst will contribute to improving MSU’s capacity to support wellbeing across campus by developing accessible, high-impact reports and dashboards for UHW and related campus units.
Key Responsibilities:
Independently plan, manage, and execute the development of data reports and analyses supporting University Health and Wellbeing’s goals and strategic initiatives.
Analyze data on health outcomes, engagement with wellbeing services, population health metrics, and program effectiveness.
Develop and maintain systems for tracking longitudinal wellbeing trends, usage of campus resources, and other key metrics aligned with institutional priorities.
Support university leadership with ad hoc data requests, evidence-based recommendations, and customized analyses to inform wellbeing programming and policy.
Collaborate with colleagues in Institutional Research, UHW, the Office of the Provost, and other academic and administrative units to ensure data accuracy, accessibility, and alignment.
Provide analytical support for university-wide assessments, including wellbeing-related surveys and strategic planning metrics.
Design and maintain interactive dashboards and data visualizations to communicate findings and trends to stakeholders across campus.
This position requires a strong understanding of health and wellbeing data, excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a complex university environment.

Duties:

Provide Ad Hoc Decision Support
Independently lead the full lifecycle of ad hoc data requests from University Health and Wellbeing (UHW), Institutional Research (IR), and the Office of the Provost. Responsibilities include meeting with stakeholders to clarify needs, identifying and engaging relevant data partners, and delivering polished, actionable insights to support wellbeing-related decisions across the university.

Support Recurring Data and Reporting Needs
Collaborate with UHW leadership and campus partners to build and maintain recurring reports and dashboards that support both central and unit-level planning. Key areas include student mental health and wellbeing trends, engagement with health services, population-level insights, and annual reporting for institutional leadership, including updates for the Board of Trustees.

Create and Maintain Wellbeing Data Systems
Design, build, and maintain a comprehensive retention and engagement database focused on health and wellbeing outcomes. This includes tracking service utilization, demographic trends, and key wellness indicators to support data-informed decisions by UHW, IR, the Office of the Provost, and campus equity-focused units such as the Office for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion (IDI).

Respond to Wellbeing Data Requests Across Campus
Research and respond to various health and wellbeing-related data inquiries from academic units, student affairs offices, colleges, university leadership, and the Spartan Wellbeing Collective. Provide timely and accurate information to guide programming, policy, and strategic planning.

Collaborate Across Units on Strategic Wellbeing Initiatives
Work in close partnership with data professionals, administrators, and health and wellness leaders across the university to support institution-wide wellbeing analytics. Contribute to campus efforts that promote data transparency, improve service delivery, and enhance outcomes for students, faculty, and staff.

This position is hybrid and must be in the office 3 days per week.
