Responsible for ensuring the scope and direction of each project is on schedule, meets specifications, remains within budget, and delivered on time. Manages and coordinates process and resources, monitors progress and resolves conflicts that arise during the course of the project. Develops communication and training programs associated with projects or changes in operational processes. As part of Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) and the Health and Nutrition Institute (HNI), we are seeking a qualified data manager with program evaluation skills to conduct data analysis and reporting of community-based nutrition and physical activity interventions. This position will require an understanding of federal policy and guidelines and the ability to successfully engage and work with a variety of individuals, across content areas, utilizing effective oral and written communication skills.
In this position, you will evaluate multi-level programming related to obesity prevention, nutrition education, and promotion consistent with public health approaches, the socioecological model of health, health policy, systems, and environmental change approaches, and the full spectrum of prevention. Specifically, you will focus on community-based nutrition education, including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed), the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), and other externally funded programs.
SNAP-Ed and EFNEP funding supports the implementation of nutrition and physical activity education by instructors and educators who help partners and sites support policy, system, and environment (PSE) changes that impact healthy choices across the state of Michigan. You will provide project management, evaluation oversight, staff training, and data monitoring of the SNAP-Ed and EFNEP planning and reporting in concert with Nutrition and Physical Activity (NPA) grant leaders and staff.
Your work will include a range of responsibilities, including coordinating the measurement and evaluation of direct education to monitor, track, and analyze program and outcome data from multiple reporting systems (e.g., PEARS and WebNEERS). In addition to quantitative program evaluation and research roles, you will utilize skills necessary to conduct qualitative analysis and will help build systems to make PSE evaluation efficient and streamlined across four project areas (schools, early care, community, and food access) that are measured for multilevel interventions.
In this position, you will continuously interface with programming staff, staff supervisors, communicators, funders, and other leaders who need support for data collection, reporting, and quality improvement. Additionally, you will assist with the creation of multi-year plans of work and annual reports of accomplishments used in federal and state reports. To be successful in this role, you will be required to problem solve, possess an understanding of logic models, while demonstrating your ability to monitor, compile, track, analyze, extrapolate, and synthetize complex numeric and text information for report generation.
Although negotiable, there is space available for this position to work from the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.
This position may be eligible to utilize a flexible work environment, however, there is an expectation to work from a MSU Extension campus-based office. The needs, responsibilities, and opportunities of an individual’s position and office location drive the ability and amount of work-location flexibility.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, citizenship, age, disability or protected veteran status.
