Data Manager

Position Summary

The CHARM Data Manager will be responsible for overseeing the management of CHARM data in coordination with the Principal Investigator (PI) and Project Director. This will involve frequent interaction with the national program office, multiple project staff and core study leaders to ensure effective data collection, tracking, and analysis.

This individual will manage participant data once collected, oversee data requests for investigators, assure security of study participants’ personal health information, and reports on findings. They will interact with partnering institutions such as health care systems and other universities to assure smooth transfer and protection of data. They will interact with the funder’s national office to provide data that is formatted as required by the funder. They will perform analysis to address research questions in collaboration with study investigators and will write sections of papers or presentations of the data analysis. This individual will be the primary liaison with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and receive population-level and individual-level data. Weekly study reporting and yearly funder reports will be completed by this person, as well as generating analytic data sets, including analysis of cohort-level data to ensure proper participant selection. The data manager will help guide the project director and PI’s on goals related to the long-term success of the Michigan state-wide sample data storage and use. This position will be working in the East Lansing office and will have the possibility of a hybrid work schedule.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through completion of one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master's in Maternal and Child Health; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research methodologies, writing reports, supervision, software, data interpretation and handling in Maternal and Child Health; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment. 

Desired Qualifications

Must be able to proficiently use a coding language to merge large datasets. Experience working on prenatal and child research studies. A degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, or other public health related fields. Experience creating websites.

Ability to efficiently balance multiple tasks and/or complex issues. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills with proven ability to correspond effectively with clinical and administrative personnel across multiple institutions.
