Athletics Laborer II
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is looking for a candidate to fill a Laborer II position. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Move, load, and unload supplies, materials, tools, equipment, and furniture.
• Assist with the retrieval and transporting of refuse and garbage.
• Transports supplies, materials, tools, and equipment to work site.
• Assist in erecting barricades and placing signals around work site.
• Assist in erecting and removing concrete forms and scaffolding.
• Assist with the pouring and spreading of concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other structural and paving materials.
• Cut weeds, brush, and grass using hand and power equipment.
• Rake lawns and removes paper and debris.
• Assist with the maintenance of landscaped areas.
• Haul, spread and grade topsoil using rake, shovel, and related tools.
• Dig holes and trenches with hand and power tools.
• Assist with the laying and watering of sod.
• Shovel snow, sand and de-ice walkways.
• Assist in cleaning and repairing catch basins and storm sewers.
• Assist tradesmen by handling, holding, positioning, and collecting tools, supplies, and equipment.
• Assist in the receipt, issuance, storage, and inventory of supplies, equipment, and merchandise.
• Clean and make routine repairs to venetian blinds, walls, floors, and cabinets.
• Clean, maintain and refinish wood floors.
• Respond to emergency clean up situations.
• Paint walls and doors.
• Clean assigned area of work.
• Operate and assist in routine maintenance of pickup trucks, vans, automobiles, and equipment.
• Move, erect and set up portable athletic equipment such as hurdles, bar, obstacles, goal nets, basketball blackboards and other related equipment.
• Assist in the set-up and clean-up of athletic, intramural, and general campus areas before and after athletic events and other special events.
• Perform minor preventative maintenance (i.e. check oil, greasing, check filters) to equipment.
• Clean and care for tools, equipment, materials and supplies.
One year of satisfactory work experience is desirable. Possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operator license(s) is necessary. Frequent lifting of over 75 pounds is required. Familiarity and ability to use common hand tools. Possession or attainment of an MSU forklift operator's permit prior to the completion of the applicable probation or trial period. Must drive University vehicle to perform job duties of this classification.
Experience with athletic equipment.
