Working/Functional Title

Aquatics Coordinator

Position Summary

Collaborate with Assistant Director of Aquatics Operations to create, implement, and update all aquatic emergency action plans, employee manuals and standard operating procedures to operate under the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program ; prioritize tasks and assign/delegate duties to all part-time employees for pre and post operations for all events; coordinate programming and scheduling of daily offerings, Spartan Swim School, Aquatic Sport Clubs, Kinesiology classes, SCUBA, group fitness offerings, lifeguard certification courses, and other aquatic events through daily communication;  assist Aquatics program to ensure compliance with all state and national codes/standards, including Ingham County Health Department, National Pool and Spa Association, and the Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines regarding accessibility of recreation and pool facilities; oversee all aquatics programming to assess customer service to ensure outstanding guest/user experience; recruit, hire, train, supervise, approve payroll, and evaluate all part-time aquatics employees (70+), including student coordinators, head lifeguards, head swim instructors, lifeguards, and swim instructors; determine staffing needs and hire qualified candidates based upon certifications, experience, skills, and ability to contribute to the diverse needs of Michigan State University and RSFS; assist in organizing, leading, and executing staff trainings; assist in overseeing operations and programming schedules for all aquatics staff; evaluate personnel via random shift audits, semester evaluations and observations from professional and leadership staff to ensure accountability standards are met; promote student development, teamwork, staff morale and mentorship opportunities across all aquatics staffing levels; collaborate internally and partner with campus units to ensure activities and services offered support a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment; assist with reviewing matters related to fees, vendors, resource allocation, budget and fiscal responsibilities for aquatics programs; assist in the promotion and publicizing of unit programs in conjunction with ASG Communications Manager; compile information and data regarding pool usage, program attendance, risk assessments, preventative maintenance, surveys, and training evaluations to aid in programmatic decision-making and to form monthly, mid-year, and annual reports; enforce and maintain RSFS policies and procedures as they pertain to usage of facilities relative to Aquatics Operations; create collaborative programming with other RSFS areas as needed; serve on departmental, divisional, and/or University committees as assigned.

All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency conditions, you will be expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to a four-year college degree, such as, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Parks & Recreation, Sports Management, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health & Physical Education, or related field; one to three years’ experience in aquatics operations, aquatics programming; one to three years supervision experience; certification as a Lifeguard Instructor, CPR/AED Certification, First Aide/CPR Instructor, or Water Safety Instructor; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Desired Qualifications

Experience in aquatics safety, emergency management experience, and aquatics event management.
