Position Summary:

The position of 4-H Youth Development Summer Program Assistant is a temporary position starting in early May and ending in mid-August.

This position is designed to provide assistance to the 4-H Program Coordinator during the busy summer months. As few as 10 and as many as 40 hours per week will be worked with an average of 20 hours weekly. The work schedule is flexible based upon daily program needs and includes some mandatory night and weekend activities. Position reports to the County 4-H Program Coordinator.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Working with 4-H Council members in planning, leading, and carrying out activities.
  • Compiling and distributing club re-enrollment packets.
  • Photocopying, collating, and laminating fair-related forms and material.
  • Working directly with 4-H staff or volunteers on fair-related activities, planning and events.
  • Available to work the entirety of July 22- August 2nd with Staff at the Tuscola County Fair.
  • Assisting with checking in still projects Saturday, July 25th.
  • Assisting with clerking in buyers of the craft/bake sale auction on Monday night, July 27th.
  • Assisting with clerking the 4-H livestock auction on Friday morning, July 31st.
  • Completing follow-up tasks after the fair.
  • Assisting 4-H Council members in pre-fair & awards banquet activities.
  • Supporting Exploration Days delegation and orientation with direction from 4-H staff.
  • Putting together 4-H club re-enrollment and financial paperwork packets.
  • Assisting with fair entries in the Sho Works System and pulling reports as needed.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Applicants must be available and willing to work flexible hours during the Tuscola County Fair; July 25- August 2nd.

Total hours worked will be approximately 165 hours at $17.00 per hour. 

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Applicants must be attending or entering college, post high school education, along with being a 4-H Alumni if having participated. Participating in 4-H as a youth is not required but gives the applicant a head start.
  • Basic knowledge of 4-H Youth Development programs and basic knowledge of computer programs.
  • A successful applicant will be an individual who is flexible, independent, and a self-starter who handles pressure well. They must be able to complete a variety of administrative assistant duties and work independently, following direction well.
  • Proven ability in establishing and working with a network of constituents and community members across race, gender, national origin, gender identity, religion, age, height, weight, political beliefs, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, veteran status, socioeconomic class, disabilities, and other differences.
  •  Demonstrated success in program development and delivery to audiences/communities representative of the communities we serve, and proven ability in establishing and working with a network of constituents and community members across race, color, gender, national origin, gender identity, religion, age, height, weight, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, veteran status, socioeconomic class, and other differences.
  • Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.
  • Combination of education and specific, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and use of appropriate approaches, skills and techniques, which reflect an understanding and awareness of social, cultural and economic diversity of the target population served.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Travel in local and surrounding communities and occasional long-distance travel are required as a regular part of this position.
  • Transportation is the responsibility of the employee.
  • Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., web research, Zoom, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, etc.).
  • Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
