Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.
Unit Position Summary
The Counselor-Social Worker provides comprehensive individual and group counseling, advocacy, and psycho-social services to support University students, staff, and the public. This role addresses developmental, career, and mental/emotional health concerns, fostering a safe and supportive campus environment. The Counselor-Social Worker also collaborates with campus and community resources, supervises graduate students, and conducts workshops to educate and support the campus community on mental health and developmental issues.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address a range of mental health, career, and developmental issues, providing emotional support and crisis intervention as needed.
- Perform assessments, including administering and interpreting psychological and career-related tests, to support clients in understanding and overcoming personal and professional challenges.
- Develop and coordinate support groups focused on specific issues to foster a supportive peer community.
- Engage with current research on psychological issues and best practices to apply effective counseling techniques and resources.
- Prepare and maintain intake records, treatment notes, and statistical reports to document client care.
- Serve as a liaison between clients and campus or community resources, ensuring appropriate referrals and advocating for clients when engaging with other service providers.
- Collaborate with health services, campus safety, residence halls, faculty, and external community agencies to ensure cohesive and comprehensive support for clients.
- May provide primary supervision for social work and counseling graduate students, ensuring they meet professional standards in client care.
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- State licensure as a Counselor or Social Worker (ACSW certification may be required for supervision of social work students).
- One to three years of progressively responsible experience in counseling or social work in a clinical or educational environment.
- Proficiency in using standard office technology, including email, internet, and basic computer software.
- Valid driver’s license (may be required based on position duties).
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-based environment and adapt to a dynamic work setting.
