Position Summary

Major responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 Strategy Setting

o Works as part of Office of Admissions management team to develop, recommend, and implement annual and multi-year strategic plans for undergraduate admissions

o Works as part of Office of Admissions management team to adjust or modify the international strategy or targets based on in-cycle outcomes

o Utilizes demographic information, historic enrollment trends, market forecasting, and prospect data in order to develop and implement recruitment strategies and plans for targeted international recruiting

o Develops and establishes performance metrics and target goals for international admissions counselors and other Office of Admissions personnel with responsibilities for international recruiting

o Collaborates with Financial Aid and Planning and Budget Office to evaluate international tuition pricing and merit program effectiveness

o Creates, implements, and manages strategic initiatives in order to attract and enroll international students

o Develops and recommends policies and procedures relative to international admissions

 International Admissions Counselor Management

o Plans and directs admissions activities for international undergraduate admissions

o Directs the planning and implementation of student employee and international admissions counselor orientation, training, and development programs

o Leverages data to evaluate effectiveness of recruiter and geographic assignments, programs, engagement, lead scoring, and conversions

o Evaluates and, as needed, modifies admissions counselor regions/territories, responsibilities, and activities to improve overall effectiveness

o Supervises and evaluates the day-to-day work of international admissions counselors

 Student Recruitment & Admissions

o Travels to visit secondary schools and community colleges in order to build relationships with school officials, counselors in and out of the US, and students to develop enrollment pipelines from these institutions

o Interviews and counsels prospective students and their parents in order to ascertain their qualifications and provide admission guideline information

o Counsels and provides guidance to students exploring various educational plans or courses of study

o Reviews applications for admission in order to determine eligibility for acceptance to the university

 University Relations

o Serves on special admissions and scholarship committees

o Represents the Office of Admissions in the absence of the Director or Senior Associate Director(s)

o Coordinates with key university offices having admissions-related interests such as the Alumni Association, University Development, and Athletics, Office of International Students and Scholars, International Studies & Programs, and Education Abroad.

o Liaises with MSU colleges with specific enrollment goals or activities (Honors, etc.) to align international recruiting and admissions activities

o Serves as a resource for university administrators and representatives, students, parents, external organizations/agencies/individuals, and other educational institutions.

Communication / Interpersonal Relationships

Interacts with

 Current and Prospective Student/Parents – to answer questions and provide information about the university and the admissions process

 Admissions Staff – to exchange information regarding admissions activities and provide work direction

 Admissions Director and Senior Associate Director – to receive work direction

 Academic Departments / Secondary Schools / Colleges / Universities / External Constituencies, Organizations and Agencies – to answer questions and provide information

 Alumni / Development / Athletics/Other Departments/University Administrators - to act as a liaison in coordinating admissions activities and information

 University Officials – to act as a liaison and provide recommendations on admissions initiatives and policies

Responsibility for the Work of Others

Second level supervision over regular and student employees

 

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in professional admissions at a large, nationally or regionally accredited institution, including supervising, planning and implementing admissions programs; developing and implementing marketing and recruitment plans and strategies; researching and analyzing admissions data; professional experience in international undergraduate recruiting and working with the public; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid vehicle operator’s license. 

Desired Qualifications

 Demonstrated ability to develop individuals and teams; inspire and motivate others is required

 Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of people; ability to conduct difficult conversations

 Demonstrated ability to use a CRM and or other prospect/funnel management technology

 Demonstrated ability to utilize data to inform strategic and management decisions

 Skilled project manager, proven track record of leading and planning cross-functional projects or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Ability and willingness to travel regularly, both domestically and internationally, with occasional evening, weekend and overnight assignments as needed.

Must possess a valid vehicle operator’s license.  

This position requires, or will require prior to the completion of the probationary period, knowledge of personal computer terminology, intermediate skills in presentation software, and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet
