Position Summary

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in overseeing spaces and equipment across various educational, laboratory, and manufacturing settings throughout the campus. Your responsibilities will include supervising facilities and related projects within the College of Engineering, providing maintenance and training on tool and machinery usage, and ensuring a safe working environment.

Responsibilities associated with this role encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating as a valuable team member, engaging with university personnel, faculty, staff, and students to contribute to the planning, supervision, and coordination of facility usage and activities, offering necessary assistance.
  • Supporting general engineering facilities operations, including liaising with university facilities personnel for oversight of facility-related projects, managing facility support equipment, and identifying/reporting facility issues.
  • Supervising the utilization and training of shared or instructional manufacturing equipment.
  • Coordinating health and safety measures for others, including providing instructions and monitoring proper equipment, chemical, and electricity usage within educational, laboratory, and manufacturing environments.

This role may entail substantial physical exertion and necessitates the utilization and upkeep of equipment. Strict adherence to a designated dress code and safe equipment handling within the environment is imperative. It may involve the transportation of equipment and freight, as well as the setup and maintenance of spaces in various facilities both on and off campus. Additional requirements encompass:

  • Holding a valid vehicle operator’s license
  • Regular lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Flexibility in scheduling regarding the start and end of the day.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Biological Science or a field related to the department of employment; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in the preparation of chemicals and media, handling of live and preserved biological specimens, writing and editing reports, working with electrical/mechanical equipment, supervising/ training and a knowledge of safety procedures and computers; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Priority will be given to candidates possessing extensive experience in metal machining and familiarity with related specialized equipment and machinery. Particularly valued are individuals capable of demonstrating proficiency in training others in the usage of such equipment.
