Position Summary

The School of Journalism at Michigan State University is seeking dynamic and engaging candidates for faculty positions to teach online and campus courses in journalism and digital storytelling. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated professional expertise in one or more areas listed, as well as teaching experience.

Teaching responsibilities may include one or more courses in any of the Schools concentration areas and minors, which include:

Animation and Comics Storytelling
Audio Storytelling
Broadcast Journalism
Documentary Production
Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Environment, Science and Health
Filmmaking
Information Graphics
International Reporting
Media Design
Media Relations
Multicam Production/Television
Photojournalism/Media Photography
Public Relations
Sports Journalism
Writing, Reporting, and Editing
 
Review of applicants in this pool is ongoing and continuous. The roster of open courses changes from semester to semester, and it is possible at times there are no open positions.
 
Initial appointments are for one semester or one year, depending on the course structure, but may be renewed based on funding and performance. Positions rank will be at the level of assistant instructor, instructor, or assistant professor. Degree requirements differ depending on rank: Bachelors degree is required for assistant instructor, masters degree is required for instructor, and PhD is required for assistant professor.

Minimum Requirements

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous teaching experience is valued.
  • At least five years of industry experience in journalism, media production or a related field.
  • Recognized or award-winning achievements in related areas of practice.
