Position Summary

Mentors may specialize in a domain like coding, design, business, project management, etc. Please indicate your specific domain of expertise in your cover letter. The ideal candidate has graduated from the Apple Developer Academy and can demonstrate knowledge of the iOS ecosystem. There are additional technical qualifications included in the minimum qualifications section below. Additionally, an ideal candidate has general industry experience in app development and can demonstrate knowledge of the iOS ecosystem.

The candidate must bring experience in teaching, coaching, or tutoring individuals from diverse backgrounds. The candidate must be open to learning and exploring new pedagogical models, and the candidate will be expected to learn alongside participants. They will be expected to work with an extended team to build a strong collection of high-quality inclusive teaching practices and materials, including creating technical solutions for in-house use by participants and mentors of the Apple Developer Academy and Foundation programs. Minimum Requirements

Key Qualifications 

  • Minimum two years post-secondary education, or equivalent professional experience
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion: Demonstrated personal or professional commitment or experience engaging with diverse groups of people 
  • If applying for a coding role: 
    • Must have knowledge of one or more programming language (e.g., Java, C++, Objective-C, Python, and/or Swift) 
    • Must have iOS Ecosystem familiarity with SwiftUI and UIKit
    • Must have formal coding experience: demonstrated 1+ year of job experience or training in a coding-related field (e.g., higher education courses, training, certifications, online courses, etc.) or combination of education and experience
  • If applying for a design role: 
    • Must have knowledge of UX and UI principles
    • Must have iOS Ecosystem familiarity with iOS Human Interface Guidelines
    • Must have formal design experience: demonstrated job experience or training in a design related field (e.g., higher education courses, training, certifications, online courses, etc.)

  • Team player with good interpersonal skills 
  • Experience working with a dynamic diverse team setting
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and demonstrated leadership ability
  • Interest in new pedagogical models (e.g., Challenge Based Learning or experiential learning models) 
  • Interest in experimenting with new classroom practices 
  • Interest in empowering a diverse range of participants to reach their potential 
  • If applying for a coding role: 
    • Knowledge in programming logic and computational thinking, 
    • Knowledge about Xcode Server and Continuous Integration is a differential 
    • Experience developing IDEs including Xcode
    • Experience building and deploying tools (e.g., Git, Maven, Gradle)
    • Experience with Learning Management systems
    • Experience with UI Testing and Testing tools
    • Experience with debugging and profiling testing tools 
    • Experience with networking and protocols (IP, TCP/UDP, HTTP, HTTPS) and Web Services (REST) 
    • Experience working in Agile teams and other development methodologies 
    • Experience developing software as Scrum team member
  • If applying for a design role: 
    • Knowledge of UX theories and processes
    • Knowledge of user research, empathy and understanding, personas, user stories, prototyping, wireframing, etc.
    • Knowledge of design principles (e.g., typography, color palettes, etc.) 
    • Knowledge of accessibility principles 
    • Experience with brand identity, logo design, or marketing materials among diverse markets
    • Experience with Design Thinking frameworks
