Position Summary
The Senior Academic Specialist - External Relations, under authority delegated from and representing the FRIB Scientific Director, will lead and manage the External Relations program, which aims to create outreach and engagement within the scientific community represented by institutions outside of MSU. This position will serve as a critical linkage and hub for disseminating knowledge in institutional relations matters related to scientific experiments between stakeholder groups external to the University, FRIB/MSU faculty, and staff.
Major Duties/Responsibilities
- Identifies potential strategic opportunities to expand FRIB's network of national and international partners and cultivates existing relationships
- Leads negotiation, implementation, and curation of MOUs for FRIB's national and international collaboration initiatives
- Navigates the DOE user facility and university environment for mutually beneficial outcomes for FRIB and its national and international partners
- Stays currents on emerging needs and opportunities within the field of nuclear science and changing national and international contexts
- Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the responsibilities in this job classification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain and cultivate national and international relationships between research organizations
- Ability to stay abreast of developments in FRIB science
- Ability to communicate effectively and credibly to a variety of different audiences, including national and international funding agencies, scientific leaders, and laboratory management
- Ability to ensure compliance with regulations and standards

Required Degree
Doctorate -Physics or Chemistry
Minimum Requirements
- PhD in Physics or Chemistry
- 8+ years of experience working in or adjacent to the field of nuclear science (physics or chemistry)
- 2 years external relationship management
