As part of MSU Extension (MSUE), this position provides leadership of local programs, clients, and participants, related to MSU Extension’s online programming in all 4 institutes. At least 50% of programming will be Agriculture based. In alignment with the mission, programs, and initiatives of MSU Extension, delivers research-based information to program participants through various methods and/or provides support, coordination, and technical assistance of MSU Extension programs held in-person and virtually.

In this role, you will collaborate with MSUE instructors of online programs in order to facilitate in-person classes with delivery of online content, market, facilitate in person classroom delivery, and collect evaluation materials needed by the online instructor.   You will serve as the local representative and facilitator of the online class by arranging locations and setting up technical assets in order to deliver educational programs from on-line sources to local audiences in person and maintain appropriate records to provide certificates of training. Class locations will be held in Alpena, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, Montmorency, Otsego, and Presque Isle Counties. 

You will be responsible for engaging in social media to market and promote programs including local and team Facebook, and other pages. Additionally, you will develop local and regional marketing channels to release marketing materials created for each educational activity.

Although negotiable, there will be space available for this position to work from the Presque Isle County MSU Extension office located in Rogers City Michigan.

Characteristic Duties/Responsibilities

  • Plan local programs, organize and carry out programs using existing scheduled online programming and facilitating a local classroom experience that focuses on the specific area of educational programming. This can also include planning events that will have live speakers.
  • Operates somewhat independently, with minimal supervision, ensuring that program delivery follows prescribed guidelines and meets the goals for reaching specific audiences and meeting the goals of the online instructor.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships intra- and inter-organizationally and create and promote positive public relations for MSU Extension.
  • Initiate efforts to expand MSU Extension programs to ensure that community needs assessments, program development and recruitment efforts include the engagement of Michigan’s diverse residents across race, gender, socioeconomic class, disabilities, and other differences.
  • Collaborate with the appropriate MSU Extension Instructors.
  • Facilitate communication of expertise from online instructor to program participants and information to clientele related to program area.
  • Plan, organize and implement programs that use existing online offerings and meet the needs of local residents.
  • Work to identify and remove barriers from participation in MSU Extension programs.
  • Attend various and related local program meetings or committee meetings, as well as community planning activities, as appropriate.
  • Other duties may be assigned by supervisor.
  • Actively participate in a variety of professional development opportunities to attain and retain program knowledge and delivery skills.
  • Promote, and represent MSU Extension in activities, meetings, etc. in a manner that reflects collegial connection with the community, the research and knowledge of the University, and the goodwill of MSU Extension.
  • Ensure that diverse audiences are reached through traditional and newly developed programs.
  • Provide information and opportunities for learning through the use of technology, mass media, group meetings, workshops, and individual contacts.
  • Utilize online programming, market, deliver and evaluate educational programs both face to face and on-line.
  • Participate in local/regional community collaborations, collaboratives, meetings, etc. that are relevant to local efforts.
  • Maintain appropriate records to provide certificates of training by serving as local liaison to online instructor. Engage in social media to market and promote programs including local and team Facebook, and other pages.
  • Distribute marketing materials including flyers and social media graphics for programs.
  • Participate in team initiatives including but not limited to distribution of materials, trainings, professional development, etc.

 

Position Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and use of appropriate approaches, skills and techniques, which reflect an understanding and awareness of social, cultural and economic diversity of the target population served.
  • Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., web research, Zoom, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, etc.).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Travel in local and surrounding communities and occasional long-distance travel are required as a regular part of this position.
  • Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated success in program delivery to diverse audiences/communities, and proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members across race, color, gender, national origin, gender identity, religion, age, height, weight, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, veteran status, socioeconomic class, and other differences.
  • Experience and proven ability working productively with a team serving in both leadership and contributor roles.
  • Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.
  • Transportation is the responsibility of the employee.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated drive and initiative, with proven ability to manage multiple responsibilities and tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience providing adult education ideally including parenting or professional development education.
  • Experience teaching in online environments.
  • Experience delivering standardized curriculum to fidelity.
  • Ability to work effectively independently with little direct supervision.
