Position Summary
The Department of Theatre at Michigan State University is seeking a part-time Assistant Instructor, Instructor, or Assistant Professor of Stage Management. This is a fixed-term, spring semester position beginning January 1, 2025 and is not renewable. Rank is determined by highest degree with a BA required for an Assistant Instructor position, MA for an Instructor, or PhD equivalent -MFA for an Assistant Professor position. All degrees must be confirmed by degree-granting institutions at the time of hire.
The successful candidate will teach THR466 Advance Stage Management, a 3-credit required class for those enrolled in the BFA Stage Management program. This course meets in-person Tuesday and Thursdays from 10:20am – 12:10pm. Classes begin January 13th and end May 2nd.
This position will also mentor and supervise experiential learning opportunities during the production season for the Department. Students in the BFA stage management program work on departmental productions as members of stage management teams. This position will work closely with those students through weekly individual meetings, observing rehearsals, providing mentorship during the rehearsal/tech/dress process, and conducting post-production assessments with each student. Assisting/mentoring and offering feedback to the student stage managers is a vital and exciting part of the position.

- Master’s or MFA
- Membership to the professional union AEA
- Experience as a professional stage manager on multiple productions.
