Infrastructure Design Analyst

Position Summary

The MSU IT Infrastructure Support team consists of experienced networking professionals from various backgrounds. They are tasked with the planning, installation, operation, and maintenance of the critical infrastructure essential to the university's daily functions.

Our mission is centered on the stewardship and administration of the university's infrastructure, which includes wired and wireless networks, DDI, switching and routing, and telecommunications. The team is instrumental in maintaining the technological foundation that supports the university's operations.

The perspective candidate reports to the Assistant Director and will be required to:

  • Play a vital role in the design of communication distribution systems at MSU.
  • Support the senior team (PIA III/Engineers) with planning and cost estimates for new and existing building systems by applying industry best practices to implement telecommunications cabling infrastructure for our facilities.
  • Provide planning, design, and cost estimates for communication system alterations, improvements, and construction projects to ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and university standards. 
  • Distribution Design - providing building riser diagrams, telecommunication room layouts, rack/wall elevations, and pathway designs to support inside plant (ISP) and outside plant (OSP) cabling infrastructure. This will include field visits to determine existing conditions and coordinate technical reports and drawings.
  • Specifications and Standards - developing & maintaining all aspects of the specification for cabling types, locations, and configurations.
  • Meetings and Site Visits - This position will play a key role in the Planning, Design, and Construction (PDC) and works in collaboration with IPF and contractor companies in meetings and on-site in active construction areas as an owner representative for MSU Infrastructure support.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired by completing a four- year college degree program in Engineering or a related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in construction specific to the work being performed, supervision and management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; possession of a valid vehicle operator's license to perform job duties

Desired Qualifications

Desired technical education in trade specific subject matter includes BICSI credentials: BICSI Technician (TECH), Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), Registered Telecommunications Project Manager (RTPM), Outside Plant Designer (OSP). Software and systems knowledge of AppTree, PlanOn, TDX, and PlanGrid
