MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY invites applications for a Fixed-Term Actuarial Fellow / Instructor appointment in Insurance and Risk Management. This is a recurring position effective Spring 2024 in the Department of Finance at the Eli Broad College of Business. It is a part-time, non-tenure track position. The successful candidate will teach primarily undergraduate level insurance and risk management (IRM) courses in person at the Michigan State University Eli Broad College of Business Main Campus and online. A successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in various areas of IRM, such as the fundamentals of risk management, ERM, all types of insurance coverages including personal, commercial, life, and health, employee benefits, and the role of insurance in retirement planning. The standard teaching load for part-time is one (1) or two (2) courses per academic year. Faculty are expected to focus primarily on teaching but are also expected, to a limited degree, to engage in additional responsibilities that includes academic advising, student mentoring, scholarly activity, and college and university service.
Position is planned to recur every Spring Semester

Job Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a bachelors degree in an applicable business major or actuarial program, an excellent academic record and demonstrate a high level of teaching competence or demonstrated potential to be an outstanding teacher, as well as the ability to contribute positively to a multicultural campus. An earned masters degree in a business or other insurance or risk management related certification are desirable. Significant professional experience in the insurance industry is also highly valued with 5+ years of practical insurance operations experience. While we welcome applications from candidates in all areas of the insurance industry, we would be especially interested to hear from applicants who have a combination background in insurance operations and business organizations, corporate governance, business ethics and sustainability, or entrepreneurship, and those who could help advance the Broad College of Business equity and inclusion initiatives and programs, as well as demonstrate the interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses. Experience with and commitment to working with diverse student populations and commitment to equity in education at all levels is required. Experience and/or commitment to the use of technology as an instructional tool is desirable, as are strong collegial and collaborative skills.
