The Han Lab at the Michigan State University is looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to carry out the field test of EliteTreeTM transgenic poplars, which are engineered to have accelerated stem growth and increased secondary cell wall formation. The transgenic poplars are in their 2nd-year growth in the field under a 5-year USDA APHIS permit. Successful applicant will join a multi-disciplinary team comprised of researchers in the fields of woody biomass feedstock improvement and products development (e.g., biofuel, briquettes/pellets, lignin products) to pursue research funded by the USDA NIFA STTR program.

Doctorate -Plant Physiology, tree biology, or related
Candidate must hold a Ph.D. in plant physiology, tree biology, or a related discipline.
Preference will be given to candidate who has hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques. Previous experience in analyses of transgenic plants (e.g., transgene expression, statistics analyses) is encouraged.
Candidate should submit his/her letter of interest, CV and names of three professional references.
The position is available as early as June 1st, 2023 and is renewable pending successful performance and funding availability.

The Han Laboratory, located in the Plant Soil Sciences Building at MSU, is well equipped to carry out the research. In addition to this field test, the research focus areas in the Han Lab are transcriptional regulation of secondary wall formation and the interplay between environmental signaling and secondary cell wall formation. The successful candidate will also have research opportunities to take advantage of the genetic resources from the on-going research in the lab.
