Position Summary
Greets visitors and provides informational assistance; compiles, processes and checks information and provides clerical support for a department or office; has phone, email, and personal contact with customers to assist them in selecting the best product to fit their needs and then to process the orders, purchase orders, and invoice documents for accurate data entry and for timely receipt by customers; coordinates daily operations with support staff to verify order fills, delivery of product, special requests, and order processing for customer base; takes payments from customers and balances daily cash receipts; works with vendors to coordinate order placement and schedule timely deliveries (receiving); performs routine office tasks such as filing, copying, typing, scanning, proofreading, and sorting/distributing mail; trains and oversees student staff; orders office supplies. Work hours may vary when filling in for co-worker and for special event needs. Duties associated with this position will involve viewing a computer monitor 75 percent of the time, some moderate physical effort, including walking, standing, bending, and stooping.
All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in maintaining accurate records, data entry, word processing, typing and/or balancing cash receipts; or knowledge of technical or medical terminology and/or technical training related to the field of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of PCI compliance standards, Outlook, Word, and Excel software; knowledge of AS400/Power 7 ordering software; good customer service skills (in person and via the phone); ability to relate well with and interact with people; ability to handle multiple tasks and manage interruptions; high level of attention to detail and accuracy is paramount, especially for taking bakery decorated product orders.
