Position Summary

As a Nurse Practitioner, you will provide high-quality patient care, diagnose and treat various medical conditions, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical background and excellent communication skills.
 
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Obtains medical histories and assesses the state of health of the patient in order to determine health care needs and records findings.
  • Performs complete screening examinations and routine examinations in order to determine diagnoses and maintain good health.
  • Performs, orders and interprets routine laboratory tests and notifies patient of results.
  • Consults with physicians in order to predetermine alternative treatments and prescribe proper dosages to patients.
  • Assesses information and/or symptoms of patients by phone in order to prescribe treatment or refer to appropriate sources.
  • Administers medical treatments to patients using appropriate drug administration protocols, and monitors patient's level of wellness.
  • Counsels and instructs patients in order to provide support, facilitate recovery and to foster patients' self-care at home.
  • Develops teaching curriculum and teaches patients, families, students and community members about specific illnesses and diseases, health problems and wellness in individual and group meetings.
  • Initiates and participates in research studies in order to increase the knowledge of health care and treatment.
  • Attends classes, workshops, seminars, and staff development programs.
  • Meets with other members of the health team in order to plan and coordinate patient care.
  • Maintains a system for accurately recording and reporting patient conditions in the medical record.
  • Assists in planning, maintaining, evaluating and interpreting care standards for the clinic, while assuring compliance to clinic quality standards.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work such as a Masters in Nursing; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in direct nursing care in a specialized area or a Master's Degree in Nursing; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in direct nursing care in a specialized area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position also requires possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and specialty certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan. May require certification by the American Nurses' Association in a specialty area.

Summary of Physical Demands

The job requires significant physical effort and involves lifting and maneuvering patients and fine manual dexterity 26-75% of the time; visual and aural acuity necessary to monitor patient care.

Summary of Health Risks

Exposure to human blood, serum, and other body fluids; and materials covered under Universal Precautions; TB risk or work within three (3) feet of patients in a health care setting; wear a respirator.
