Position Summary

Reporting to the Remote Storage Facilities Coordinator: Duties consist of working with offsite Remote Storage Coordinator on special projects, processing books into high density shelving, scanning of interlibrary loan requests, and other duties as assigned.

Reporting to the Head of Access Services: Duties consist of reporting to work in the Main Library on campus on various days of the week to assist on projects. These projects include work in Stacks Maintenance: building book trucks, conducting book sweeps, shelving books, pulling books, conducting shelf checks, monitoring for overcrowding, assisting with future shifting needs, and other duties as assigned.

In both locations, work is of a very physical nature, requiring standing, frequent lifting of 50 pounds or more, and moving and climbing access ladders. Must have reliable transportation and flexibility to report for work at both the Main Library on campus and the offsite Remote Storage Facility on alternating days of the week, as needed. Previous and recent experience in academic Libraries is also required.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical, vocational or business school; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an office setting; experience in record keeping, data entry/retrieval, database, spreadsheet, word processing, composing, editing, and proofreading web pages; knowledge of library automation system support; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; experience with integrated library systems.

Detail oriented with high level of accuracy; ability to identify and resolve problems exercising excellent judgment; ability to handle varied, multiple and competing project priorities; knowledge of the following: FOLIO, ILLiad, and the MSU Library online catalog; excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills and be able to interact professionally and effectively with the Library's multi-cultural/multi-generational students, faculty, staff, and community patrons; ability to collaborate well with others and help to foster a welcoming environment.
