Position Summary

The Heath-Heckman lab seeks a postdoctoral scholar to use cutting-edge transcriptional methods to interrogate host-symbiont interactions in the squid-vibrio system.  The project goal is to determine host responses to bacterial products and how these responses influence symbiosis maintenance.  While the project scope and techniques used will be open to discussion, optimally the postdoctoral scholar will perform transcriptional profiling on host cell populations and verify those patterns using various in situ transcriptional and protein localization techniques.  The postdoctoral scholar will work with the PI and other lab members to design and run experiments and write publications, as well as mentor undergraduate researchers.

The Heath-Heckman lab welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds and seeks to provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all of its members. The position is in-person and will be based at the Heath-Heckman lab at Michigan State in East Lansing, MI, which has a favorable cost-of-living: salary ratio.  The postdoctoral scholar will have opportunities for professional development, such as conferences, seminars, and workshops.  This is a full-time, 12-month, fixed-term position, with reappointment expected, although conditional on satisfactory performance.  The start date is flexible, but optimally during the summer of 2024.
