Position Summary
We seek a full-time research associate to assist with an ongoing training program and related studies regarding the detection of waterborne pathogens. The research associate will work with a team that has been building capacity in Michigan to run quantitative PCR for viral pathogen and microbial source tracking (MST) analyses to inform environmental monitoring across the state. The selected candidate should have specific experience with quantitative PCR (qPCR/ ddPCR), optimization and development of molecular methods, experience with environmental microbiology is preferable. Responsibilities include providing technical assistance regarding qPCR/ddPCR, microbial source tracking and molecular microbial methods; running training workshops; and partnering with network collaborators on ongoing studies related to the detection and management of environmental pathogens and markers.

Required Degree
Doctorate -Microbiology
Minimum Requirements
PhD in microbiology, with specialization in water/environmental/food microbiology or related discipline with a record of undertaking quantitative PCR work.
Desired Qualifications
Some understanding of water research including collection, processing and analysis of microbes from water/wastewater samples will be beneficial. Experience with training or teaching advanced students or professionals preferred. Experience with sequencing analysis is desired.

Physically intensive job, requiring the ability to lift samples from cooler to bench, lift biohazard waste bags to carts, and lift lab consumables from boxes to shelf.
