Position Summary

We are seeking a postdoctoral candidate to join the Particle Astrophysics group at the Michigan State University Department of Physics and Astronomy to work on observational high-energy astrophysics with a focus on X-ray observation.

The successful candidate will be expected to lead data analysis on X-ray observations of the Nuclei of nearby galaxies, including nearby supermassive black holes, Galactic center molecular clouds and magnetic filaments, using NuSTAR, Chandra and XMM-Newton data. Candidates with a strong X-ray data analysis background are encouraged to apply. Expertise in optical and radio observations are preferred but not required. The appointment will be initially for two years with the expectation of a third-year renewal subject to mutual agreement.

Michigan State hosts a growing program in particle astrophysics, including efforts on IceCube, HAWC TeV gamma ray and various X-ray observatories. The group benefits from close connections to the high energy physics group. The candidate will have the opportunity of contributing to other on-going projects in the group, including IceCube neutrino data analysis, R&D for next generation neutrino detector P-ONE, detection and analysis of millimeter-band transients with SPT and CMB-S4.
