Unit Position Summary

The MSU Detroit Center is looking for a temporary office assistant to assist in fostering a welcome environment to the groups and people who utilize the building while providing excellent customer services to students, faculty staff and other guests by answering phone, responding to emails, and triaging services that are undertaken in the Center. 

Office Assistant will also be responsible for other administrative tasks such as

  • Set up/ event spaces and provide audio-visual/technical assistance
  • Document event and building attendance census records
  • Perform various tasks, including typing, copying, and answering the phone.
  • Monitor and stock supplies
  • Maintain accurate records of event schedules, set-up requests and adapt to changes
  • Update scheduled events on website and maintain social media presence for Center
  • Perform other related responsibilities as assigned by the Facility Coordinator and Director.

Desired Qualifications

  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills; have the ability to communicate effectively online, over the phone, and in person; have the ability to maintain accurate logistics and records.
  • Facility management experience.
  • Good problem solving and customer service skills.
  • Must be able to work as part of a diverse team to accomplish group goals.
  • Reliable transportation
  • Have an appreciation for diversity and sensitivity toward a variety of ideas and values.
  • Ability to assume leadership roles and complete all assigned tasks.
  • Be a positive representative for Michigan State University and adhere to and enforce the rules and regulations of Michigan State University.
